The Contender - A Cry From Jack's Heart

1 Corinthians 2: 7,8,9 “But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory; which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

Psalms 45: 1 “My heart is overflowing with a good matter: I speak of the things which I have made touching the king: my tongue is the pen of a skillful writer.”

Overflowing

C.H. Spurgeon says: “The King is seen with rapture, he girds himself as a warrior, robes himself as a monarch, mounts his chariot, darts his arrows, and conquers his foes. Then he ascends his throne with his scepter in his hand, fills the palace hall with perfume brought from his secret chambers, his retinue stand around him, and fairest of all, his bride is at his right hand, with daughters of subject princes as her attendants. Faith is no stranger to this sight, and every time she looks, she adores, she loves, she rejoices, she expects.”

So often, I send many of you a receipt letter that always commences with a quote from God’s precious word. Today, I had to make sure everyone who reads this broader and more general report is exposed to the wonderful commentary of Pastor C.H. Spurgeon concerning Psalms 45:7 which beautifully describes the experience and perspective of those who love Christ (His Bride, the Church-Repentant).

I ought to be speaking of Him of whom ‘my heart is overflowing.’ This is all our challenge every day: to bear witness of Him who ‘so loved us’, and to cry out from our own experience of ‘overflowing’ love for Him. Is it not hoped that our faith has caused us "to see, to look, to adore, to love, to rejoice and to expect" of so great a Savior!

‘This is my story, This is my song; Praising my Savior, All the day long!”

Oh, dearest ones! These thoughts describe the awesome challenge we face every day in this mission’s work, that we "be blameless, and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom we shine as lights in the world; holding forth the word of life." (Philippians 2:15, 16a)

Thank You, Precious Loved Ones! God Has Loved and Encouraged Us By Your Life!

Jude 20-23

P.S. you would have encouraged us most when you’ve read; and then, prayed accordingly!

Prayer Concerns

My heart is indeed broken and deeply pressed for several ministry initiatives which literally engage our lives, daily:

• Chester County Prison’s residents and leaders;

• Joshua and Jordan Crans in the planting of “Providence/Coatesville” church that gathers at 6pm every Sunday Night at the Bridge Academy Community Center, corner of Virginia Avenue and Olive Street;

• The National Law Enforcement Officer’s Memorial Mission (Washington, DC) May 12-16;

• Pointman Leadership Institute's International Training Summit in Iowa, May 21-25; and

• Camp at the Old Mill’s Spring Upgrades and Summer Programs impacting marginalized children, youth and families. (A $20,000 challenge!)

Coatesville

These concerns mentioned above are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to what overwhelms my heart from day-to-day. The spiritual forces that stand against the church plant in Coatesville are very real and I’m personally asking God to lay this work upon many of your hearts.

Right now, I’m asking you to join in deliberate and ongoing prayers for Joshua and Jordan. Forty-plus years of bringing the precious word of God to the City of Coatesville through ministries which have long manifested our calling and commitment to this very precious community.

We’ve embraced countless lives in this economically-depressed town through the prison chaplaincy, City Gate Mission, Children’s Bible Clubs, ministry to several generations of families and now, we must do what Christ commissioned us to do: establish a church family and continue more deeply in ‘making disciples.’ We recognize the need for vital partnerships with like-minded, followers-of-Jesus Christ. This is not going to be an easy work, but an agonizing call upon my own son and his family. Oh, that God embrace him and strengthen this work through the spontaneous, loving efforts of caring churches, friends and loving intercessors!
