The Contender

"It was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Jude 1:3

Psalms 113 – “Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, Praise the name of the LORD. Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore. From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same. The LORD’s name is to be praised. The LORD is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens. Who is like unto the LORD our God, who dwelleth on high? Who humbleth himself to behold the things that are in heaven and in the earth? He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth the needy out of the dunghill, that he may set him with princes, even with the princes of his people. He maketh the barren woman to keep house, to be a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD.”

Matthew 26:30 – “And when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the Mount of Olives.”

Hallell

According to Easton’s Bible Dictionary “Hallel” (praise) is the name given to the group of Psalms from 113-118, which are preeminently psalms of praise. It is called ‘The Egyptian Hallel” because it was chanted in the temple whilst the Passover lambs were being slain. The Levites, standing before the altar, chanted it verse by verse, the people responding by repeating the verses or by intoned hallelujahs. It was also chanted in private families at the feast of Passover. This was probably the hymn which our Savior and his disciples sung at the conclusion of the Passover supper kept by them in the upper room at Jerusalem.

As G. Campbell Morgan observes, “Thus the King came to the darkness of the Cross singing of the enduring loving-kindness of GOD.”

In Matthew 21:42 “Jesus said unto them, ‘Did ye never read in the scriptures, the stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes.” (Psalms 118:22,23)

Hold Fast

I’m writing this letter on first day of the Lenten Season…forty-days of preparation of our hearts as we contemplate our Savior’s life, death, burial and resurrection. Steve Green (USA worship songwriter) captures Psalms 113-116 beautifully in his new album: “Hold Fast” which I highly commend to you.

2 Corinthians 5:7b-8 “For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us: therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”

National Prayer Breakfast: Report

As I write to you, I have so much pressing upon my heart. I’ve just returned from the ‘Prayer Room’ of the National Prayer Breakfast (February 7, 8) wherein 30 hours of prevailing intercession was made for individuals and 140+ nations. The ‘Cardozo Room’ of the Washington Hilton Hotel became a place of sanctuary and spiritual warfare in the midst of ‘such a time as this.’ We sought to be the aroma of Christ to all whom God would bring into our midst from the leadership of the U.S. Capitol Police to the Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations. The theme I sought to fill our hearts in this labor came from Mark 13:33 “Take ye heed, watch and pray: for ye know not when the time is.”

Yesterday was not just the first day of the Lenten Season; it was the sad day marking the 18th public school shooting in the USA since January 1 and the 18th police officer ‘line of duty death’ (12 by gunfire). Our hearts ought to be broken and desperate as we come before His presence in prevailing prayers. In one precious, brief moment during the National Prayer Breakfast I was able to meet the UN Ambassador of Israel and encouraged him to embrace four needful words: “Broken Heart/Unbroken Hope.” His eyes glanced at me and with sober face he whispered: “I understand what you have spoken.”

Oh, dear ones, may such times cause our hearts and lives to become intercessors!

Prayer Requests

Here are just a few of the present concerns that overwhelm my life and find me anguished and watchful before the throne of His Merciful Presence (Hebrews 4:14-16):

-       Chester County Prison’s beckoning heart-cries to all of our hearts and the need for God’s powerful working in ‘repentance’ and ‘turning of hearts.’  ‘ReTURNing Hearts’ are two words that I’m asking you to pray will become the most heard confession within our prison’s walls. Pray, also, as our own Heinrich Botes matures into the role of ‘in-house-pastor’ to the many reflected urgencies of our agency’s staff and residents.

-       Providence/Coatesville Church (under the shepherding ministry of Joshua Crans and Jordan Crans) needs your faithful prayers. My heart aches to see a core of committed, faithful and selfless, kindred hearts come alongside of this undertaking. As Dr. Woodrow Kroll said many years at our camp meeting: “Many are called, but, few are choice!” I thank God for the ‘few’ and ‘faithful’ who have come alongside of this fellowship that serves the very precious lives impacted in our mission’s labors from day-to-day. (josh.crans@gmail.com)

-       Pointman Leadership Institute Summit is being hosted by CCGM at Camp at the Old Mill during May 5-10. Airport drivers, sponsors of international police commanders and financial assistance with prayerfulness will help us to embrace these law enforcement commanders from 5 continents.

National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial (NLEOM) May 12-16 Washington, DC. We will be leading the way in hosting a team of approximately 25 police leaders who will strategically serve the 35,000 law enforcement visitors expected to our nation’s capital to remember and gather on behalf of family who have been slain-in-line-of-duty in 2017. Pray for God’s great working in the heart and life of NLEOM, Executive Director: Mr. Craig Floyd. A timely, needful leader!

Pray for God’s Protection Over Us and For His Glory in Our Midst!
