The Contender

"It was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Jude 1:3

October 2018

Deuteronomy 10:20,21; 11:1,2,7: “Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. He is thy praise, and he is thy God, that hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen…Therefore thou shalt love the LORD thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments always. And know you this day: for I speak not with your children which have not known, and which have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm…But your eyes have seen all the great acts of the LORD which he did.”

Malachi 2:5-6 “My covenant was with him of life and peace; and I gave them to him for the fear wherewith he feared me, and was afraid before my name. The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: He walked with me in peace and equity, and did turn many away from iniquity.”

Malachi 1:10b – “I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.”

A Spear of Conviction

The LORD spoke forcibly to those who had ‘seen’ and to those who ‘knew’ and who had ‘experienced’ the great acts and holiness of His ‘stretched out arm.’ A careful and somber musing upon the brief texts above will send a spear of conviction into every heart that confesses the knowledge of God’s holiness, faithfulness and judgments.

Perhaps we ought to somehow apply God’s earlier warning to His covenant people as noted in Malachi 1:10b and in Malachi 2:11 “Judah hath dealt treacherously, and an abomination is committed in Israel and Jerusalem, for Judah hath profaned the holiness of the LORD which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange god.”

Fourth Sunday Night Solemn Assemblies

As we enter into the deepening waters of our nation’s woes and the increasing demands of our summer; let us take time to bathe ourselves in such concerns as our Solemn Assemblies at Camp at Old Mill (127 Brandamore Road, Honey Brook, PA 19344). These are wonderful occasions when God’s Word is preached with a real sense of urgency and we can more intimately share what God is doing in our overwhelming days in this mission’s work.

Our preachers (chosen from many willing and capable men-of-God) will be the following:

June 24th: Pastor Jordan Thomas, Grace Church of Memphis, Tennessee and well-known Bible teacher from the wonderful series: ‘Behold Your God.’;

July 22nd : Lt. Colonel Michael Belton (Sentinel #376, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier ) featuring a major heart cry for our military and police families; and

August 26th: Ken Welborn (Foreign Service Fellowship) Missionary/Pastor to the precious leaders of all nations at the United Nations in New York City.

Our preachers are expected to come to us with a commitment to the sacred text of God’s Word and with an urgency that ought to resound with a deep burden that awakens each of us ‘for such a time as this!’ Mark your calendar for these timely nights and remember to bring your lawn chairs. Thank You Volunteers

I want to thank so many of you who came alongside of Sue and I in the recent hosting of the International Summit for Pointman Leadership Institute. Countless hours and extreme, costly labor fell upon us, yet, the joyous and reviving presence of the LORD accompanied each and every task.

Volunteers served in every imaginable capacity from late April through May 12th. CCGM/Camp at Old Mill/Chester County Prison/Bridge Academy Community Center…all continue forward by the gracious working of God through surrendered, committed volunteers!

Investment Opportunities

Rarely will I mention costs, but, allow me to just make note of an ever present reality. The care of many facilities, acreage and purchase of foods, educational resources and staffing remain a factor from day-to-day. Commencing in mid-June we will host hundreds of precious, needful children, youth and adults. Our camps for the children from many cities are most often either ‘free’ or requires a mere ‘$15.00’ for up to 4 days of an over-night-experience. Meals, purchase of new bunks and the willing hearts of volunteer-counselors make it all possible.

Summer Camp Meals

Many of you have notified me of your willingness to help with providing a meal for our June camps. However, many of you have asked for the exact same days and times. I will be seeking your imminent help in serving with us in this great need. Please continue in correspondence with me upon receipt of this notice.

In closing, I ask that you hear my plea for prayer! We are desperate for praying friends and serve you notice that our future rests in those of you who have cared to faithfully pray!

Heinrich Botes is overwhelmed in his role as Pastoral/Chaplain at our prison and Joshua and Jordan are consumed with the church-plant and the children and families of Coatesville. Jason Jarvis bears a huge responsibility in the managing of the ‘Camp at Old Mill’ and the ‘hour bodes heavy with adversity.’ We love you and we thank God for each of you!

So many of you who read this communication already have selflessly poured your lives into the many initiatives of ‘County Corrections Gospel Mission and I hesitate to ask you for anything else but it is my firm belief that one day it shall be revealed whom God has used to raise up and sustain this mission. I am sure that God knows the PRAYING FRIENDS who will be the eventual, manifest reason we have been able to continue for the praise of His glory! If you pray for us, you have already done the very best thing you could ever do!

I beg you to take time to pray for me and for this challenging work that presently consumes us!
