The Contender

"It was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Jude 1:3

1 John 2:14b “I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and you have overcome the wicked one. (Oh, would that this be the case for such a time as this; that the ‘word of God would abide in us!)

Amos 2:11,12 “And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the LORD. But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not.”

Amos 8:11-13 “Behold the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: and they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. In that day the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.”

Pernicious

G. Campbell Morgan states: “The prophet did not mean that there would be on the part of God a capricious withholding of His Word. He did not mean to say that the famine would be because God did not speak, or because God had nothing more to say to men. That is a surface interpretation, and I believe it to be as false as it is pernicious, and as pernicious as it is false.

His description of the famine indicates rather a condition of man in which he is incapable of discerning. The difference is essential and radical. Not that God ceases to speak, but that man loses his power to hear. Not that God withholds His Word from men but that men hear it, and never hear it.”

O, how I love the cry of Moses to his generation: Numbers 11:29b “…would God that all the LORD’s people were prophets, and that the LORD would put his spirit upon them!”

James 4:4b “…know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.”

All of these precious scriptures have poured into my heart these recent days and my heart’s cry has echoed such related themes when afforded some occasion to speak. In fact, just days ago, I preached at a local church and with heart overflowing and full of such themes, I soberly and earnestly cried: “There’s a famine in the land of hearing the words of the LORD! O, that the cry of Moses were ours, today!”

Amos declares such a sad commentary for any generation that no longer hears the words of the LORD:  “…the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst…our daughters and sons inherit the famine.  Amos 8:13

June 24:You're Invited

Our first of three ‘Fourth Sunday Night Meetings’ @ the Camp at Old Mill will commence at 6:00 pm, Sunday, June 24th as we host Pastor Jordan Thomas of ‘Grace Church’ of Memphis, Tennessee.

Pastor Thomas is best known to our ministries as he has continued to be a powerful teacher of God’s Word in the Media Gratiae Production, ‘Behold Your God.’

Jordan will be addressing both our 6:00 pm Solemn Assembly (127 Brandamore Road, Honey Brook, PA 19344) and exhorting our men and women at the Chester County Prison who are being encouraged through this very powerful resource.

PS Bring your own folding chairs. We plan to meet outdoors next to the Brandywine Creek but will move into the chapel, depending on the weather.

Heinrich Botes

Please continue to pray for our own missionary, Heinrich Botes, who is now serving as the Assistant Chaplain (In-House-Pastor) of the Chester County Prison.

In fact, please pray for all our missionary staff and myriads of volunteers who continue to serve in both the prison and in the deep, sobering heart-cries of the reflected urgencies of the prisoner’s children and families.

Pray for crime-victims and for God’s ordained servants who serve and protect our lives from day-to-day!

Michael Belton

In our Fourth Sunday Night Meeting of July, we will be hosting Lt. Colonel Michael Belton (US Army, Arlington Cemetery Honor Guard/Sentinel) who will lead us in lifting themes of concern and prayer for our nation’s police and military leaders.

Matching Gift Opportunity

Most recently, God blessed us with loving volunteers as Richard and Brenda Dickens from the Sanford, North Carolina region (Grace Chapel Church) and has faithfully provided funds through a loving, Christ-centered foundation to improve our camp’s facilities. This better equips us to address the imminent arrival of hundreds of children, youth and families for the summer of 2018!

In fact, at this very present moment-in-time, the very same caring benefactor has graciously offered a ‘matching gift of $21,200.00’ if by God’s merciful kindness such ‘new funds’ are provided through another loving miracle of God’s willing people. As always, time will tell!

Addressing the Famine

In closing, thank you for those of you who especially take the time to prayerfully read these brief, but, sincere updates and musings of my heart. I assure you that I will do my very best to use a few moments of every ‘Fourth Sunday Night Meeting’ to best address this mission’s burdens and blessings to your kind and listening hearts.

Three chosen preachers have been asked to ‘preach as though it were their very final message to the people of God.’ In a day when there is a ‘famine for the word of God’ may we be found of God as being among a remnant who still have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying unto His Church. I still openly confess with my mouth and all my heart that I remain ‘desperate’ for HIM!  (Isaiah 66:2)

With Reverent Fear of the LORD and Overwhelming Gratefulness for You!

Jack Crans, Psalms 19:7-14
