The Contender

"It was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Jude 1:3

To All Faithful, ‘Professional Religious Volunteers’ Who Pour Their Lives Into The Precious Hearts of Our Residents at Chester County Prison:

There are many ways I could illustrate my thoughts about your costly sacrifice of time and concern in the lives of our incarcerated men and women at Chester County Prison (CCP). I personally know many of you have committed to this ministry since the 1970’s.

You have faithfully left the comforts of your own life and traveled through every sort of hazard to embrace the aloneness of our prisoners. You have prepared words of hope and many of you have prayed for God’s great working in our county’s prison. Your faithfulness has not been without observation. The staff and administration of the prison bears witness of your faithfulness. So many of your lives have brought hope and consolation when lives have felt so forgotten.

When I often pause to thank God for you, I can’t help but think of the old galley ships wherein ‘below-the-deck-unseen’ is a host of strong, rowing oarsmen. I have long believed that the ‘secret’ of our prison’s great peace and imminent expectations of revival and reformation will come from the ‘power’ generated in obedient hearts of willing and faithful servants of the Most High God.

The Year 2017 must include an early call for your 'coming-up-from-below-the-deck’ and be a time of one-heartedness for the sake of the precious families whom we all seek to love and serve at Chester County Prison. A most needful theme in the new year will be: “ReTURNing Hearts”. This being the deepest longing of my own life to see our men and women ‘turn’ their own hearts to God. In this alone rests my longing and hope for a powerful new year. You will be hearing much more from me, and I pray that 2017 will be the most God blessed year we’ve ever experienced, together.

PS Please proceed to read the rest of this newsletter and you'll notice that "prison ministry" is no longer confined to "work in the jail". I invite you to partner with us in an expanding reentry initiative.

To All, My Prayers for a Wonderful Christmas and New Year!

Joy To The World!

“Joy To The World” is definitely my favorite carol at ChristmasRecent studies in Paul’s epistle to the Galatians 3:13,14 highlight what for me is one of this hymn’s most powerful stanzas:

“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles (heathen) through Jesus Christ: that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Is this not my real source of ‘joy’? What blessedness can be better than this; that Christ has redeemed my life from the wretched curse of my own sin! Oh, let me sing with joyful, tearful and thankful heart: “Joy To The World!” Herein, is what remains foundational to all of our ministry’s message and reach; that we who profess so great a Savior from our own personal darkness, would so declare Him within the darkest reaches of sin’s horrific curse.

The Year 2016

I sincerely pray that you are  anticipating and preparing for  a wonderful Christmas and a  peaceful end-of-year. I  mention ‘peaceful’ because    so often we come to a year’s  closing hours and honestly  recall so much of what we  feel we had hoped would be  accomplished. Oh, let us take  time to be quiet and muse  upon His unfailing mercies  and His wonderful works that  He has faithfully wrought for  us in 2016.

The Year 2016 - in Pictures & Video

2016 was another great year! How can we ever begin to capture all that happened with a few static pictures?! Unfortunately, most of what we experienced during this past year can never be captured by a camera.

That include the intensive labor inside and outside of prison with broken men and women but more so, the many emotions (heartache and joy) that accompany this ministry.
