The Contender

"It was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Jude 1:3

The Writing On The Wall

Psalms 47:5-9 “God is gone up with a shout, The LORD with the sound of a trumpet. Sing praises to God, sing praises: Sing praises unto our King, sing praises. For God is the King of all the earth: Sing ye praises with understanding.

God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness. The princess of the people are gathered together, Even the people of the God of Abraham: For the shields of the earth belong unto God: He is greatly exalted.

Psalms 46:8-10 “Come, behold the works of the LORD, What desolations he hath made in the earth. He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; He breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; He burneth the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.”

On Tuesday, September 12, Dr. Ravi Zacharias joined vocalist Steve Green at the United Nations International Prayer Breakfast that preceded the opening of the 72th session of the United Nations General Assembly. At the same time, we were ‘camped’ inside an adjacent prayer room for the entire duration calling upon the LORD who “sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.”

In a special receipt letter that we sent to our benefactors, I noted words engraved on a granite wall adjacent to the headquarters of the United Nations Headquarters in New York City. It reads:

“And they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks: Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”(Isaiah 2:4b)

What the engraving ignores is the very context of Isaiah’s message:

Isaiah 2:2-4a “…and it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: For out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people.”

Psalm 47 noted above speaks of that great day when Jesus shall reign! He shall be exalted among the heathen, and He shall be exalted in the earth!

In many notes that I have just written, I shared the first stanza of an old hymn that continues to bear me up with an endless hope in this present darkness. I trust you know the hymn and that it will comfort you as you read:

“Come ye disconsolate, where’er ye languish;

Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel;

Here bring your wounded hearts, Here tell your anguish;

Earth has no sorrow that heav’n cannot heal.”

Thank You to All Who Have Prayed, Served and Sacrificed Throughout This Year!

Jack Crans, Director (Chaplain)

1 Timothy 2:1-4; Matthew 20:25-28; Zechariah 7:8 - 14

Before I move forward with the content of September’s letter, I encourage you to listen to what I believe are 7 minutes of most powerful reflection: Pastor David Wilkerson’s “A Call for Anguish” which you find here on our website.

Pray with me that the very heart of this ‘call’ would stir your own heart, the core of your church family and even be applied to the hearts of legitimate authorities in every realm of rule and stewardship ordained of God within nations!

Imagine with me, a White House that anguishes! A pastor! A police officer! A teacher! A father! A warden! And most needfully; my own heart! Oh, that we pray for each other ‘for such a time as this.’

CCGM’s fiscal year close at the end of September. As we enter into October, a new fiscal year will commence and I ask for your continued prayers. The Board of Directors of CCGM is allowing Sue and I to take a brief hiatus in October (one we’ve never taken in our lifetime).

You might notice a bit slower communication during October, but I assure you that all ministries are in continuance and your personal correspondence will not be ignored or less important to us. Receipting might be slightly delayed, but will be accomplished without fail. We will keep you posted as we finalize plans by the close of September. October’s correspondence will keep us closely connected!

For your convenience, County Corrections Gospel Mission can now process online donations via PayPal. You may use any credit/debit card and you do not need a personal PayPal account.

When choosing this option, you will be directed to PayPal’s secure website to complete the transaction. Click on the "Donate" button or visit the Donation page for more options.

A Most Outstanding Summer

Without question, we’ve just finished the most outstanding summer in our ministry’s history!

Though suffering a heart attack on May 2, the Lord faithfully strengthened us to experience endless weeks of Gospel-Ministry to children, youth and adults at the Camp at Old Mill and within the City of Coatesville in partnership with the Bridge Academy Community Center and the Chester County Prison.

Look at the pictures in our Picture Gallery and how Don Truesdell of Smelter Mountain Photography captured the fun and excitement.

A Call To Pastors

I am earnestly pursuant of precious pastors and churches that have already spent so much of their labor and love in the midst of the reflected concerns of prisoners. County Corrections Gospel Mission (CCGM) has continued to be a ministry-of-partnership with like-minded, sacrificing loved ones from so many regions, churches and families. The immediate urgency for a Reentry Initiative that embraces our prisoners, their families and the imminent transformation of their lives into the community heralds a ‘cry for help’ towards all whom God has awakened to these concerns!

The leadership of our prison, parole and related criminal justice agencies watch for the response of the household of faith! I will be calling upon many of you to prayerfully engage in the lives of prisoners and in their release into the community. The task is daunting and yet the opportunity one that ought to take many of us to our knees for the embracing of this challenge. While the City of Coatesville reflects the largest need, we are very aware that God is preparing many resources of caring individuals and churches throughout Chester County.

Please know that I want to hear from you related to these concerns and will do all I can do to connect you relative to your strategic reach. The day of opportunity is before us when the heart of God’s people hears the cry of the prisoner and the leaders who faithfully serve them daily. A Reentry Center is birthing right now and we prayerfully seek your partnership.
